...I don’t know about you, but I like to surround myself with things that brighten my day and there’s no better way to do this this than in my own studio, a place which is completely my own and where I’m in charge of the life enhancing stuff!
Uplifting originals to envigorate your surroundings!
I often notice that I take in the world in an alternative way to most people. I am naturally observant and absorb the way things are organically, rather than storing a catalogue of factual information to repeat at will.
I constantly notice things around me that other people may miss, visually analysing my surroundings or being sensitive to subtexts in social interactions, which informs my creative references. I'm easily bored and seek out a steady input of visual stimulation or something practical to engage with, which makes me restless in a formal environment but very productive in the studio!
I sometimes choose to create sketches and preparatory work, but more often I simply allow the stored experiences in my internal database to ooze out and influence my art directly as I create. Some people derive validation from external sources, but for me, what I can create from my inner world is much more fulfilling!
As it often does, it began as a child. I have always been creatively inclined and holding a paintbrush in my hand is natural to me. I followed a traditional path through art education - A Level, Foundation and Degree - before directly venturing into the unchartered world of "being" an artist and self employment.
I can't quite say I've done it all, but I've had a lot of interesting times trying out a lot of artistic exploits!
Today I have the luxury of my own space at home and the freedom to do exactly as I please and among other things, what I please to do is paint.
The picturesque Shropshire and Staffordshire countryside borders my home and it’s essence - it's lushness, fluctuating atmosphere and agricultural anatomy naturally distill into my expressive paintings.
